One of the country’s best known hurling coaches, Davy Fitzgerald, is closely associated with the very popular television show, ‘Ireland’s Fittest Family’. A spin off from the concept has been ‘Cork’s Fittest Superstars’, which ‘Hillfest’ organisers enthusiastically signed up to.

Stamina was the main requirement at last Friday night's very successful Kildorrery Juvenile GAA Social, held in Mitchelstown. As usual, staff at The Firgrove Hotel did a great job hosting an event that had Cork senior hurlers, Sean O'Donoghue (Inniscarra) and Tim O'Mahony (Newtownshandrum) as special guests. Both players had words of wisdom and encouragement for their youthful audience.

Kildorrery Tidy Towns scored 155 points was back in 1996 in the Tidy Towns competition. A lot of things have changed since 1996, and Kildorrery Tidy Towns have achieved a massive increase in their Tidy Towns scores since then. 2022's score of 347 points is more than double that of 1996, and this year they secured a county third place win for North Cork in the competition.

At last! €3 million project for Kildorrery water

Kildorrery is to have a resolution to its water issues soon, as this week Irish Water confirmed to The Avondhu that a new €3 million project for new pipes and a new reservoir is to be completed in the village, with an anticipated completion date of just 30 months time. In a statement, Irish Water stated they had approved over €3 million for the project which includes the construction of a new 750,000 litre reservoir and the replacement of 1,500 metres of watermains in the village.

Around a year ago Kildorrery Community Development Limited set out to create their community ‘five year plan’. With Ballyhoura Development limited they ran a series of open community meetings. These meetings were attended by over 90 people and raised issues from services for the elderly through to the local water service. Over the next weeks, Kildorrery Community Development will be putting the final touches to the five year plan and setting up sub committees to start working on them.
